LiVE WORK is pleased to announce its next show As Time Goes By with artists Ulrich Schäfer and Daniel Blomquist.

German artist Ulrich Schäfer attended the Academy for Visual Arts in Leipzig. Since last year, while at San Francisco Art Institute on a Fulbright scholarship, he developed a series of performance works exploring a more direct access to experience through the use of minimal props and relating to a space. His process is deliberate and his forms spare. Through actions with mesmerizing simplicity and accompanying tension, Schäfer is able to achieve a Zen-like equilibrium. He speaks of his recent mode of working as one of drifting, where he explores the constantly shifting balance of controlling and being controlled, of being the subject and the object, the time and space. For As Time Goes By, he will be doing a live performance, as well as showing a video work from this exploration.

San Francisco Artist Daniel Blomquist often approaches his work by setting up a system of parameters, conditions and possibilities as guidelines. By subjecting himself to these guidelines, he explores his physical and mental limitations. And that process of physical and mental intervention creates his work. The indeterministic nature of these guidelines often engenders a surprising result in his performances.

The passage of time is an important aspect to both of these two performances, both as an endurance challenge and as a formal device. Either as dripping of water or as drifting of consciousness, it anchors their respective actions.

The performances will start at 4pm on Sunday, May 2nd. LiVE WORK space opens from 3pm to 6pm. The event is free to the public.
